About Kayang
Kayang comes from Kinnaur, a small tribal district in the eastern reaches of Himachal Pradesh, tucked into the Western Himalayas. Our orchards and farming families are spread across the region, and so is our story.
Rather than sourcing from a single farm, we work with families across Kinnaur who have been growing apples and other natural produce for many decades.
We follow the natural progression of the season, as apples ripen at different elevations and in different valleys, bringing produce directly from the people that grow it, while staying connected to where and how each harvest was raised.
Our Philosophy
Whats the purpose?
For generations, farmers from remote Himalayan regions have had limited options for selling what they grow. Much of their produce finds its way to distant mandis, where appearance can matter more than how something was grown.
The preference for uniformly red, glossy fruit puts pressure on growers to chase an appearance that nature does not always produce.
We want to build another route, where good produce is valued for its origin, flavour, and quality, and where customers understand the people and places behind what reaches their homes.
What makes our produce different
It begins with where it comes from.
Our produce comes from landscapes where farming is anything but easy.
Orchards climb mountain slopes.
Communities are separated by long distances.
Getting a harvest from tree to table can itself be an undertaking. Yet those same conditions are part of what makes this region remarkable; clean mountain air, high elevations, cold winters, strong seasonal changes, and generations of accumulated farming knowledge.
Our apples aren't meant to look manufactured or identical. They are fruit grown in real orchards, through a natural agricultural process. Colour and shape can vary, and we believe quality should not be reduced to how uniformly red or shiny an apple looks.
What we deliver is something more meaningful: exceptional produce from the Indian Himalayas, grown by Indian farmers from far off rural land who know their land, and brought closer to the people who value it.
Behind Kayang
Kayang was founded by Ashish Negi, the son of an ex-serviceman from Kinnaur who returned to his homeland after nearly three decades of city life with a simple but ambitious idea: to build a better way for the produce of Kinnaur and the Western Himalayas to reach homes across India.
Building that bridge from one of India's most remote landscapes has not been easy.
Distance, logistics, infrastructure, and financial challenges have all been part of the journey. But Kayang has continued to grow and improve year after year.
At its heart, Kayang is a personal venture but with a collective purpose alongside the young minds of Himachal, to bring together the generational farming experience of Himalayan families with a bright young native minds, technically equipped generation that can improve packaging, logistics, and market access.
